- Mr. Hughes spoke about his role as the Utilities Commissioner at the NC Utilities Commission, where he sets rates for companies that provide electricity, telephone service, natural gas, water and wastewater, household goods movers, buses, brokers, and ferryboats.
Nick Jimenez

- Mr. Jimenez spoke about being a Senior Attorney at the Southern Environmental Law Center. He leads North Carolina’s solar work within SELC’s Solar Initiative.

Alex Clingman

- Mr. Clingman is an Appalachian State graduate who came to speak about his role as a policy communications specialist at the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association.
Paige Weber
Spoke on February 21, 2023
- Dr. Weber is an environmental economist and former UNC assistant professor who now teaches at the University of California, Berkeley in the Energy and Resources Group.
- She uses methods in applied microeconomics, urban economics, and industrial organization to answer questions in environmental and climate change policy, local air quality, and energy and electricity markets.
Felix Dodds

- Mr. Dodds is a professor at UNC’s Gillings School of Public Health, the former Chair of the UN Sustainable Societies Responsive Citizens Conference, and an esteemed sustainability author.
Ashly Johnson
Spoke on November 2, 2022
- Ms. Johnson spoke about her role as Director of Community Outreach at Strata Clean Energy, a company that focuses on utility-scale clean energy projects.
Bob Leker
- Mr. Leker is a program consultant at the Energy Office in the NC Department of Environmental Quality. His work has focused on developing the DEQ Clean Energy Plan which supports work on understanding renewable technologies in North Carolina
- He also serves as the Vice Chair of the Wake County Energy Advisory Commission, where he plans with Wake County staff to support sustainability goals and obtain energy funding.
Karly Lohan
- Ms. Lohan lives in Jacksonville, NC, and volunteers on the board of directors for a local natural food co-op that works to foster and nourish the health of the individual, community and planet by offering natural, sustainable, and local products.
- In her role, she leads SEWC’s work to reduce barriers for offshore and land based wind development in North Carolina through grassroots and grasstop outreach. Through this work, she coordinates coalition building efforts for Offshore Wind for North Carolina (OSW4NC), which provides a platform for stakeholder groups to get involved in offshore wind policy and regulatory issues.
John Morrison
- Mr. Morrison is a 40+ year veteran in the energy industry, devoting his career to making the supply and use of energy more affordable, safer, and cleaner. Most significantly he helped lead two successful solar energy startups, in the process vaulting North Carolina to a #2 ranking of states deploying solar energy.
- In addition to private industry, he has worked in government, nonprofits and academia. In all sectors his focus has been on energy technology and the means to overcome technical, market, policy, and regulatory barriers to wide scale deployment of those technologies.
